The Promise
Scholarship Program is a program that was started to encourage
younger students to set their sights on a college education.
Nominations of sixth
graders are sought from elementary teachers for students who have
shown promise and potential but may not be the top students in the
class. Scholarships are given to these students, not necessarily as
a reward for outstanding achievement, but as an incentive and
motivation to stay in school, do their best, and start thinking
about education beyond high school as an attainable
goal.
At least one
student is selected from each of the district's 15 elementary
schools and awarded a $500 scholarship that will be held "in
escrow" until the student graduates from one of
Bethel's high schools. There are many other sites online that
will give you free information on applying for the Promise
Scholarship Program.
