College scholarship money can be found in a number of different places. Probably the most sought after programs are through government funding. Federal Pell Grant – The Federal Pell Grant is probably the most sought after and well known out of all the government financial aid programs. This federal grant program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and is usually awarded to undergraduate students that haven’t earned a bachelor’s or graduate degree.

The maximum grant amount for the 2008-2009 year is $4,731 and will increase to $5,400 by 2012. Students who require smaller amounts will receive less. Pell Grant money can be used for tuition, fees and educational expenses such as textbooks and materials for school.

The Pell grant is such a popular form of college scholarship money because it doesn’t have to be repaid like a loan.

Federal Supplemental Educational OpportunityProgram (FSEOG) – The FSEOG program is another government based program that provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduate students to promote access to postsecondary education.  FSEOG awards range from $100 to $4000 a year. This amount is determined by the school’s financial aid office. However, not all schools participate in the FSEOG Program.
